伊藤 政博

Masahiro Ito completed his Ph.D. at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) in 1994, following undergraduate studies at Rikkyo University in Tokyo. From 1994 to 1997, he served as a Research Associate (PostDoc) at the Department of Biochemistry, Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. In 1997, Prof. Ito joined the Faculty of Life Sciences, Toyo University in Gunma prefecture, Japan. He was awarded International Society for Extremophiles (ISE) Award (Young Scientist Poster award) in 2002, Young Scientist Award from The Japan Society for Extremophiles in 2005 and The JSPS Prize (Outstanding Contribution to Research by an Excellent Young Researcher) from The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in 2011. He is a former Program Officer of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) (2008-2010). He is presently a deputy director of the Center for Academic Research Promotion at Toyo University (2012-present). He is an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Microbiology (Section: Extreme Microbiology AND Microbial Physiology and Metabolism), an Editorial Board Member for Applied and Environmental Microbiology and an Advisory Board Member for Journal of Biochemistry. His research program examines microbial physiology, motility, and application in Extremophiles, especially, focus on the new finding of the alkaliphiles and halophiles.
