The lab's motto is "Dreams are hope, hope is courage, and courage makes dreams come true". The motto of our laboratory is "Dreams are hopes, hopes are courage, and courage makes dreams come true".
I studied engineering at university, thinking that the technology gained through the creation and development of the space industry could be the key to solving problems such as food, population and energy. However, when I considered going to graduate school, I focused on 'bio-use in life-support systems' and 'sustainable use of freshwater' and began research into bio-industrial applications, which continues to this day.
The sustainable use of fresh water has become an extremely important issue in regions around the world, though not necessarily in space stations. My goal is to realise "safe and secure water use by anyone, anytime, anywhere". To achieve this goal, my research focuses on the use of microorganisms (especially bacteria and protozoa) that contribute to the sustainable use of freshwater, and on the microbial ecosystem of water bodies.
