Michele Chan completed her BSc and MSc at Nottingham University, where she studied Psychology and Brain Imaging (Neuropsychology) respectively. She then moved to Durham University complete her PhD where she investigated learning and memory in Alzheimer's disease model using a novel continual trials recognition memory task. During this time, she also examined the effects of MK-801 on long-term memory in mice when state-dependency is controlled. She moved to Koc University in 2019 to elucidate the role of the cortical-striatal pathway in the perception of time using optogenetic methods. Soon after, she joined Newcastle University, where she investigated cognitive flexibility in early-stage Parkinson’s, effects of morphine addiction on pregabalin intake, and peripheral effects of EV-131 on recognition memory. Presently, she is interested in the underlying neural mechanisms and interventions of neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease. Specifically, the role that the entorhinal cortex plays on memory processes in Alzheimer's Disease.
