富山湾の大きな特徴は、その深海域が広い海底地形と日本海への接続に起因する海水の鉛直構造にある。一方、こうした特性から、大きな波浪が起り沿岸域に災害を与える場合もある。そこで、船上CTD/ADCPシステムを用いて富山湾の海洋環境計測を試みた。CTDでは表層水から深層水における水温、電気伝導度の差異を、ADCPでは表層から水深約200mまでの海流の流向流速が把握できることを確認した。
