Born in 1944. Graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1968. Designing various buildings as qualified architect, Senior Research Architect at the National Institute of Hospital Administration (NIHA), Ministry of Health and Welfare, Japan. Post-graduate Diploma in Heath Facility Planning (Dip. HFP) UK in 1978 at Medical Architecture Research Unit (MARU) in London as a British Council Scholar. Short–term Consultant for WHO in 1980s and 90s. Doctor of Engineering (PhD) from University of Tokyo in 1987. In 1989 Associate Professor, Department of Architecture, the University of Tokyo. In 1993, Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ) Awards and full Professorship, Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo until 2007. Then Professor Emeritus, the University of Tokyo, Moved to Kogakuin University as Professor / Chairman of Department of Architecture. In 2009, Vice-President and Dean, Faculty of Engineering. In 2011 established the first School of Architecture in Japan, and Dean, School of Architecture until 2015. Then Professor Emeritus, Kogakuin University, Directors Board Member of Kogakuin University until 2017. In 2018, Specially Appointed Professor, Kogakuin University, and in April 2019 appointed Director, Gerontechnology Research Center, Kogakuin University.
