I specialize in cultural history and comparative history of ideas and representational culture, with a focus on Europe and Japan. Starting from the analysis of architectural and urban representations, I have published on historical and morphological considerations of images and ideas. My current research interests include a comprehensive study of the work of the architect Arata Isozaki, the image theory of "symptomatic knowledge" (analysis of the image act in intellectual discovery), the interconnection of "realism" in various artistic genres and contemporary thought, historical theory on "historical experience" (Aby Warburg's "Mnemosyne Atlas"), the analysis of literary historical narrative through photography (W. G. Sebald), and rock music as contemporary thought (David Bowie).
