本遺跡は中世から近世初頭の平城である大光寺城の跡である。平成8年度に調査された外堀と考えられる大規模な溝跡(SD-08)から、主に15〜16世紀に属する多量の動物遺体が出土した。哺乳類はウマ、イヌを主体に、ネコ、ツキノワグマ、キツネ、タヌキ、ブタ、ニホンジカ、ウシが確認され、鳥類や少量の魚類も含まれる。本発表では哺乳類遺体の主体をなすイヌとウマ遺体を中心に報告をおこなう。
 ウマは最小で7個体が含まれる。幼齢から老齢までがみられ、中手・中足骨の遠位端が未癒合の2個体は約1歳未満と推定される...
