The author has been teaching how to write short essays to the third and the fifth graders in his institutesince the fiscal year of 2005. In 2008, the author conducted questionnaires about the instruction of shortessay writing to the fifth graders who were preparing for university transfer admission or job examinations.The result showed that the students had found the instruction practical and useful. The current study reportsthe result of the questionnaire, and the practicality of teaching short essay writing and its educational effect,which were observed through the classroom activities.
