Profile

Mikyoung Kim is Associate Professor at the Hiroshima City University- Hiroshima Peace Institute in Japan. She has published refereed articles and book chapters on memory, reconciliation, and human rights in East Asia. Her books include Northeast Asia’s Difficult Past: Essays in Collective Memory (Palgrave Macmillan, 2010; with Barry Schwartz), Securitization of Human Rights: North Korean Refugees in East Asia was published (Praeger, 2012) and Routledge Handbook of Memory and Reconciliation in East Asia (Routledge, 2015). Kim served as the editor of North Korean Review (McFarland Publisher, 2011-12; http://www.mcfarlandbooks.com/customers/journals/north-korean-review/), Memory Studies Journal on Korean memory (Sage Publications, 2013, Vol. 6, No. 3; http://mss.sagepub.com/search/results?fulltext=korean+memory&submit=yes&journal_set=spmss&src=selected&andorexactfulltext=and&x=0&y=0), and Review of Korean Studies on Japan's Korean War (The Academy of Korean Studies, 2014, Vol. 17, No. 2; http://www.dbpia.co.kr/Journal/ArticleList/161517). She is elected as Human Rights Research Committee (RC26) Chair of the International Political Science Association (IPSA, 2016-2018), and has been a two-term member of ROK Presidential Council on Peaceful Unification (2013-2015), and Vice-President of ROK Fulbright Alumni Association (2012-2015).
