Profile

Takayuki HIOKI is Associate Professor of Japanese Literature, Shirayuri University, Tokyo. He received BA degree in Theatre Studies from Waseda University and earned MA and PhD degrees at The University of Tokyo. His research interests include the modernisation of kabuki and the relationship between theatre and society in the Meiji era (1868-1912). His recent publication is "Kabuki in the Transforming Era: A History of the Kabuki in the Late Edo Period and the Meiji Era" (in Japanese, Published by Kasama Shoin, 2016).
