In April 1997, a new organization, the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), was established in Japan. Three institutes, the former KEK, the Institute for Nuclear Study (INS), and the Meson Science Laboratory at University of Tokyo merged together to form the new KEK. The budget request of the Japan Hadron Facility (JHF) project has been officially submitted to the Ministry of Education; Culture, and Science by KEK. The proposed accelerator complex and experimental facilities are described, and the current status of the project is briefly summarized.
