I am Professor of Applied Linguistics at Ryukoku University in Kyoto, Japan, where I am in charge of a range of applied linguistics courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as supervise master’s and doctoral students. I received my PhD in language teaching and learning from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. My research and teaching interests lie in the areas of teacher education, teacher research, and qualitative research methods (in particular, narrative inquiry and classroom-based research). Recent book publications include: Narrative inquiry into language teacher identity: ALTs in the JET program (Routledge), Team teachers in Japan: Beliefs, identities, and emotions (Routledge), Native-speakerism and trans-speakerism: Entering a new era (Cambridge University Press), Trans-speakerism: A collection of empirical explorations (Routledge), and Trans-speakerism and empowerment: A global dialogue in language education (Palgrave Macmillan).
