I'm experienced in the EFL environment teaching both spoken conversation and academic reading and writing. I place a priority in my classes on critical thinking (supporting statements with evidence, considering written markers of subjectivity vs. objectivity and logical connections, etc.). I also favor the use of inductive exercises, where students are asked to investigate texts or language samples (e.g., concordance lines) and either answer questions about texts' meaning or discover grammar patterns or other linguistic features while working in groups, with the lecturer acting as a guide. I incorporate ideas from my research, e.g. corpus linguistics, into my lessons to enable students to answer language questions on their own outside of class. These emphases are directed towards an overall goal of instructing students to access, evaluate, and use information in order to answer real-world questions and tackle complex issues.
