京都市での調査結果を元に家庭ごみ処理の複数シナリオにおける温室効果ガス(GHG)排出量を試算した。また、再資源化とトレードオフとなる発生抑制の効果を探るため、食べ残し等の生産段階のGHG排出量を推計した。結果、分別収集または機械選別で厨芥類と紙類のバイオガス化を行うシナリオが最も削減効果が高くなった。また、食べ残し等の発生抑制はバイオガス化導入状況においても大きな削減効果があった。
