Damage to buried pipeline has often occurred at the bend section during earthquakes due to a thrust force. Although the passive earth pressure behind the pipe is expected as the resistive force that act against the thrust force in the current design, there have been few studies that focused on the influence of the bending angles on the mechanical behavior of the pipes. In this study, the lateral loading experiments have been conducted for model pipes buried in sandy soil with various bending angles. The result of the experiments showed that the bending angle of the pipe has no influence on the force-displacement relationship under the present experimental condition.
