上野 文彦

Fumihiko Ueno, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in Department of Psychiatry at University of Ottawa. Clinically, he works in the Psychosis Stream at The Ottawa Hospital, providing care for individuals with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders. His research focuses on the neurobiology of treatment-resistant schizophrenia, with an emphasis on identifying imaging-based biomarkers of treatment response through multimodal neuroimaging, including magnetic resonance spectroscopy, neuromelanin-sensitive MRI, and structural imaging.

Dr. Ueno received his MD and later his PhD in Medicine from Keio University in Tokyo, Japan, where he also completed residency training in psychiatry. He subsequently served as a staff psychiatrist at Kurihama Medical and Addiction Center, the largest addiction treatment facility in Japan, where he gained extensive clinical experience in alcohol and behavioral addictions. In 2019, he relocated to Toronto for a postdoctoral research fellowship in neuroimaging at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), followed by a clinical fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at University of Toronto.

His research has advanced understanding of glutamatergic, GABAergic, and dopaminergic abnormalities in schizophrenia and their relationship to antipsychotic treatment response. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and has presented at major international conferences, receiving early-career and young investigator awards from organizations such as Schizophrenia International Research Society (SIRS), Society of Biological Psychiatry (SOBP), and American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP). His work is supported by competitive grants, including a Young Investigator Grant from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF).

Outside of his professional roles, Dr. Ueno enjoys running and has occasionally competed in marathons.
