Profile

Mingwei Chen is the principal investigator and division leader of Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR) at Tohoku University and the professor of Johns Hopkins University. He received his doctor’s degree in materials science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. His research interests focus primarily on the relationship between structure and properties of non-equilibrium and nanostructured materials. He is recognized internationally for his pioneering contributions in structure of metallic glasses, shear amorphization of boron carbide, structure and functionalization of de-alloyed nanoporous materials and the invention of 3D bicontinuous nanoporous 2D materials. He received Paul A. Siple Memorial Award for Army Research Achievements from U. S. Army; Senior Scientist Award of ISMANAM; Highly Cited Researchers Awards from Thomson Reuters and Clarivate; and Prize for Science and Technology from Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan
