My research interests mainly involved in coastal engineering, coastal disaster reduction and nearshore hydrodynamics. I work towards a better understanding of the nearshore processes caused by ocean waves/flows, and aim to provide a better solution to the reduction of coastal hazards.
My current study at Kyoto University is on the effects of green infrastructures (ecosystem-based solutions) for coastal disaster reduction considering climate change: Eco-DRR. Specifically, I am investigating mangrove forests and their effectiveness as a coastal protection against tsunami, storm surge and extreme waves. Different approaches (numerical + physical modelings & field works) are applied to quantify mangrove effects by well addressing their structural complexity.
