Kenji Tahara received a B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1998, an M.E. degree in Information Systems in 2000, and the Ph.D. degree in Robotics in 2003, all from Ritsumeikan University, Japan. From 2003 to 2007, he was a Research Scientist of the Bio-Mimetic Control Research Center at RIKEN (The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research), Japan, and he moved to the Institute for Advanced Study of Kyushu University as a Tenure-Track Associate Professor in 2007.
He was promoted as an Associate Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kyushu University, Japan in 2011. He stayed at the LASA laboratory directed by Prof. Billard at EPFL in Switzerland from 2013 to 2014, and the Manufacturing Science laboratory directed by Prof. Kao at Stony Brook University in 2017, as a Visiting Professor in both cases. Since 2020, he has been a Full Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kyushu University, Japan. His current research interests include grasping and manipulation of robotic hands, musculoskeletal systems, artificial muscle actuators, bipedal robots, and so on.
