Dr. Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary is an Associate Professor of Economics at Tokai University, Japan, and the Vice President and co-founder of the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS), based in Australia.

He has previously served as an Assistant Professor at Keio University and Waseda University in Japan. He has also been a Visiting Professor at various universities and institutions, including Keio University (Japan), Chiang Mai University (Thailand), Yonsei University (Republic of Korea), the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), UCSI University (Malaysia), the Institute of Energy Economics of Japan (IEEJ), the Credit Risk Database (CRD) Association of Japan, the Graduate School of Economics at the University of Tokyo (Japan), Griffith University (Australia), and the University of Tasmania (Australia).

On May 22, 2024, Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary was one of 11 researchers in Japan across various disciplines to receive the Research Front Award from Clarivate, which recognizes researchers who have made exceptional contributions in globally significant, cutting-edge fields of research.

On March 1st, 2024, he was awarded Fellow status by the Commercial Education Society of Australia in recognition of his dedication to education and teaching.

On April 19, 2023, he was honored with the Commendation and Medal for Science and Technology by Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology for his outstanding research in renewable energy financing, particularly his design of the Green Credit Guarantee Scheme.

In 2022, he was named one of Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers™ (representing the top 0.1% of scientists globally).

In 2022 and 2023, he was also listed among the world’s top 2% of scientists in the fields of economics and energy based on the Stanford-Elsevier ranking. Two bibliometric studies published in Renewable Energy and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews (Elsevier) ranked him as a leading global scholar in green finance in 2022. In 2023, a study published in the Journal of Climate Finance (Elsevier) ranked him as the world's most prolific author in climate finance.

In 2019, he was awarded the Excellent Young Researcher (LEADER) status by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) in Japan.

Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary has published extensively on topics such as energy economics, energy policy, green finance, small and medium-sized enterprise finance, Asian economics, and the contemporary Japanese economy.

He currently serves as Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Environmental Assessment Policy and Management (World Scientific) and as an associate editor or board member of several other journals, including Economic Analysis and Policy, Energy Efficiency, Singapore Economic Review, Global Finance Journal, Financial Innovation, Journal of Risk Finance, Review of Accounting and Finance, China Financial Review International, and Vision - The Journal of Business Perspective.

He has also guest-edited special issues for prestigious journals such as Energy Policy, Energy Economics, Finance Research Letters, Resources Policy, Utilities Policy, Renewable Energy, Journal of Environmental Management, and Climate Change Economics.

His scholarly output includes over 350 academic journal papers and book chapters, as well as the editing of 25 books published by major publishers like Springer Nature, Routledge, Elsevier, World Scientific, Edward Elgar,  and the Asian Development Bank Institute.

Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary has led, managed, and contributed to numerous research, capacity-building, and consulting projects related to energy, economics, and finance for international organizations and institutions, including the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank Institute, the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation Institute, as well as financial institutions and governments of various countries.

Dr. Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Keio University, Japan, under a scholarship from the Japanese government (Monbusho: MEXT), and a Master’s in Energy Economics from Tehran University, Iran.
