Hidetomo Sakaino

Hidetomo Sakaino received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in nuclear engineering and biomedical engineering from Hokkaido University, Japan, in 1986 and 1988, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2011. In 1988, he joined Human Interface Laboratories, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) Corporation. In 1990, he also joined the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International. In 2001 and 2006, he joined NTT Communication Science Laboratories and NTT Energy and Environment Systems Laboratories, respectively. In Sept. of 2016, he retired NTT Network Technology Laboratories.He was Principal Engineer with Image Processing Center, Japan Center, Huawei Technology. Currently, he is with Weathernews Inc., Expert.
His main research interests include computer vision, image processing, image quality enhancement, nonlinear signal processing, and energy optimization, learning/recognition, in particular, in the understanding of real world changes. His computer vision based weather-radar image prediction method has been launched commercially in Japan. He has authored over 37 papers in peerreviewed journals and conferences, and holds over 150 issued patents, including international patents in USA, Germany, and France. His research areas include physics-based modeling from optical flow, image synthesis, image prediction, to stochastic tracking. He is IEEE SENIOR grade and a member of the IEEE Multimedia Communication Society Multimedia Communications Technical Committee.
