１．「とても」をはじめとする程度限定の副詞に関する日本語教育研究

修士論文・博士論文を含め中心的に取り組んできました。

「日本語の教科書ではやたら『とても』が出てくる（気がする）けど、日本語母語話者はほんとに使ってるの？」という疑問が出発点です。そこから、「やっぱり色々な類義語との使い分けってのが大事なんじゃない？」と、社会言語学的な観点を含めた語彙教育の変革の必要性について考えたり、「じゃあなんで日本語教育はこんなに『とても』推しになったの？」と、（主に話し言葉の）通時的なコーパス調査や、日本語教科書の分析を行ったりしています。

２．自動車整備士養成に関する専門日本語教育研究

自動車大学校などへの留学、特定技能、技能実習などで自動車整備に関わる非日本語母語話者に関する研究です。自動車整備士になるということは、単に専門知識・技能を身に付けるということだけではなく、同僚や顧客とのコミュニケーションも求められます。非母語話者が専門家として母語話者の非専門家とどのようにコミュニケーションを取るのか。そのあたりに興味を持って調査研究を進めています。現段階では教科書の定量的なテキスト分析が主になっていますが、今後、協力機関と連携しながら調査を進めていきたいと考えています。

３．日本語教育における機械翻訳の活用

エジプト・カイロ大学との共同研究テーマです。学習者がどのように入力・出力テキストの修正を行うかという点に関し、特に語用論的な要素に注目して調査を進めています。

1. Research on Japanese degree adverbs, like 'totemo (とても)'.

This is the subject of my master's and doctoral theses. The starting point is the question: "In Japanese language textbooks, 'totemo (とても, very)' appears with high frequency, but do native users of Japanese really use the word that often?" I argue for the need to update vocabulary teaching using a sociolinguistic perspective, saying: 'It is important to use a variety of synonyms, isn't it? I also ask, "Then why has 'totemo' come to be used so frequently in education?" I conduct diachronic corpus studies (mainly of spoken language) and analysis of  textbooks from the perspective of "Then why is 'totemo' used so frequently in education?

2. Research on specialised Japanese language education related to the training of automobile mechanics

The number of non-native Japanese speakers studying to become an auto mechanic in Japan is increasing. Auto mechanics are required not only to have specialist knowledge and skills, but also to communicate with colleagues and customers. I am interested in how non-native speakers communicate with native-speaking non-specialists as specialists. Within this theme, I will conduct an 'analysis of auto mechanic training textbooks', 'analysis of auto mechanic training classes' and 'analysis of communication in the auto mechanic workplace'. Currently, I am mainly working on quantitative textual analysis of textbooks.

3. Research on the use of machine translation in Japanese language teaching.

This is a joint research theme with Cairo University, Egypt. We are investigating how learners modify input and output texts, with particular attention to pragmatic elements.
