物理学に基づく計算手法や数理モデリングなどを用いて，大気境界層における物質輸送や地形のパターンダイナミクスなどの機構解明に取り組んでいます．また，低温室や大型風洞を用いた室内実験，砂浜や雪原における野外観測などにも参加し，理論・実験・観測の融合を行っています．さらに，これらの成果を自然現象の予測へ展開することで，自然災害への防災・減災に資することを目指しています．
