Profile

Hirotake Ishiguro is an Associate Senior Research Fellow of Middle Eastern Studies Group in Area Studies Center at Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO) in Japan. He previously served as an Assistant Professor of Faculty of Humanities at Kyushu University in Japan. His areas of research focus on comparative politics, political participation and social transformation of the Arab Gulf states, and maritime relationship of the Gulf region with Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean. He has held research fellowships of The Kounosuke Matsuhita Memorial Foundation, Middle East Institute of Japan and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). He was also granted a scholarship from the Kuwaiti government for studying Arabic as second language at Kuwait University, and then he has conducted field works in the Gulf region, mainly Kuwait and Bahrain intermittently. He received his undergraduate degree in History of Islamic Civilization from Kyushu University, and his graduate degrees in Cultural Interaction from Kobe University in Japan.
