ピロリ菌(Helicobacter pylori)はヒトの胃に感染し、胃がん等の疾患の原因となる。そのゲノム配列は多様性が高く、地域特異的に進化したことが知られている。日本人患者由来のピロリ菌のゲノムを解読し、他地域由来のピロリ菌ゲノム配列と比較した結果、遺伝子のレパートリーだけでなく、ゲノム構造や、エピゲノム修飾の一種であるDNAメチル化についても様々なメカニズムにより多様化していることが明らかとなった。ゲノム中の逆位は地域特異的に分布しており、ゲノム中の逆位とリンクして遺伝子重複が起き...
