In recent years ‘telecollaboration’ has been gaining popularity among scholars, teachers and students engaged in foreign language education as it allows the use of Internet-mediated communication tools to connect language learners in geographically distant locations and help them develop their foreign language skills and intercultural competence. While the intercultural learning aspect of telecollaboration has been widely studied by scholars and practitioners, the intracultural component of online intercultural exchange has been left outside researchers’ radars. The current study defines intracultural communicative learning as a process of (re)discovering new, sharable knowledge related to one's own culture, language and communicative patterns and considers such a learning an important driver in the formation of intercultural knowledge between exchange partners.

The lack of a functional framework for incorporating intra-cultural learning into telecollaborative projects to date is seen in this study as a missing link in the effective use of online intercultural exchanges. The study develops a model that supports the integration of instructor-assisted inquiry-based learning
