Gender and Artificial Intelligence: Striving for social justice and protection of rights in the age of AI

On October 28, the Northwestern Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs will host a global and interdisciplinary panel on Gender and Artificial Intelligence.
Faculty from The University of Tokyo and Northwestern University will discuss how societal structures have shaped AI and how AI, in turn, is transforming our societies and lives. Panelists will draw on historical and current examples of how technology has created and exacerbated injustices. Together, they will imagine a different future where digital technology and AI can support gender equity and promote peace.
The panel will be held on Friday, October 28th from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m CDT (GMT-5) at 1800 Sherman Ave, Suite 3-000, Evanston IL 60201, with a reception to follow.

Katherine Compton, Assistant Professor of Instruction in Computer Science, Northwestern University
Kaori Hayashi, Executive Vice President, Professor of Media and Journalism Studies, and Founding Director of the B’AI Global Forum at The University of Tokyo
Yuko Itatsu, Professor of History and Director of the B’AI Global Forum at The University of Tokyo
Amy Stanley, Wayne V. Jones II Research Professor in History, Northwestern University
Moderator: Annelise Riles, Executive Director of the Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs and Associate Provost for Global Affairs, Northwestern University
