I graduated medical school in 2004. After graduation, I have been working in a hospital as an emergency physician and endoscopist for more than 20 years. In addition to clinical duties, I conducted the laboratory work to clarify the clinical ideas and questions as the “Physician-Scientist” with the support of the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research.

With global warming, many people are transferred to emergency department every year. It is estimated to increase by 1.5–3.0°C by 2100, which would result in increased frequency and severity of heatstroke worldwide in near future. However, the treatment has not established and pathophysiology of heatstroke is not well understood. Therefore, I started to establish the mice heatstroke model from 2010 that mice were exposed to heat under the hot and humid condition. It took almost 10 years to establish the mice heatstroke model and finally published in “A novel mouse model of heatstroke accounting for ambient temperature and relative humidity. J Intensive Care. 2021, IF 7.520”.

In the process of establishing a mice heatstroke model, I noticed that motor coordination disorder appeared several weeks after heatstroke rather than immediately after heatstroke. Same coordination disorder after heatstroke is often seen in heatstroke patients that prevents to return to normal life. Therefore, I focused on the effects of heatstroke on the cerebellum using mice heatstroke model. I reported the result in “Heatstroke-induced late-onset neurological deficits in mice caused by white matter demyelination, Purkinje cell degeneration, and synaptic impairment in the cerebellum. Sci Rep. 2022”.

In 2023, I got the chance to visit Institute of Neuroimmunology Slovak Academy of Sciences which is famous for tauopathy as the visiting scientist.

After coming back, I strated the experiments which forcus on the neurodegeneration and coagulation disorder after the heatstroke. 

From 2024, I am researching the workload of workers through physical and mental monitoring using wearable devices.
