© 2017 Elsevier Ltd A highly diastereoselective Darzens reaction was developed by using a MEM- or TBDPS-protected α-hydroxy aldehyde with di-tert-butyl bromomalonate. This method effectively provides a syn-α-alkoxy epoxide, and a possible reaction mechanism was proposed to explain the high syn selectivity.
