The purpose of this study was to conduct a meta-analysis of data obtained from studies investigating cognitive function on mini mental state examination in persons with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and thereby evaluate the effects of cognitive intervention in these persons. We searched for reports published until July 2015 using Pubmed and Cochrane Library. Data from seven reports that met the selection criteria were integrated in our meta-analysis. Results did not show a significant difference on the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), which indicated the cognitive function in the post-intervention compared with the pre-intervention. Thus, the cognitive intervention was shown not to be effective for the improvement of cognitive function in persons with MCI. However, there was a variation in methods of cognitive intervention and no consensus has been reached as some reports have stated that the cognitive intervention is effective for improving cognitive function but other reports have indicated that the cognitive intervention offer hardly any improvement. Therefore, based on the results of this study, in the future it seems necessary to conduct similar research for obtaining more results and also to investigate the effects of standardized cognitive intervention.
