１９９８年からアフリカ、エチオピアでものつくり（土器つくり）の技法の伝承と学習について、とくに身体技法に着目して調査研究をすすめてきました。現在は、地域の資源をもちいた製品製作など実践的な活動にも従事しつつ、技術の導入や村人によるそれらの受容の仕方を検討したり、それらの技法や知識を共有したり再配分するグループの形成過程にも注目してフィールドワークをおこなっています。
