This chapter gives an overview about phosphoinositide signaling in animals and fungi, especially its involvement in the regulation of cell architecture. It describes recent findings about phosphoinositide signaling and its interacting factors in root hair tip growth. Finally the chapter proposes a hypothesis for the regulatory mechanism for establishing and sustaining the polarity of root hair tip growth focusing on phosphoinositide signaling.
