南極やグリーンランドで掘削されたアイスコアに閉じ込められた過去の空気を取り出して分析し、過去の気候や温室効果ガスの変動を復元し、それらの時間関係をもとにした過去の環境変動の復元やメカニズムの解明を目指して研究しています。気候・氷床モデルに入力・比較データを提供するなど、データとモデルの連携も進めています。
