Frequency domain power adaptation scheme for coded OFDM transmissions

In this paper, we propose to adapt the power allocation scheme to the coded OFDM transmissions. The proposed method consists of grouping a certain number of subcarriers and performing local power adaptation in each subcarrier group. The grouping and the local power adaptation allow us to take advantage of the channel variations and to reduce the computational complexity of the proposed power distribution scheme, while avoiding the performance degradation due to the suboptimum power adaptation as much as possible. Simulation results show significant improvement of BER performance compared to the equal power allocation regardless the modulation scheme, the coding rate and the channel coding scheme (i.e. convolutional code or turbo code).
