In C village, when people refer to central government, officials and communist party, use the concept of 'state' to criticize opponents or compare the village cadre with own ideal image. I describe discourse concerning gambling, senior association and the communist party in a rural society, and point out state and government are a framework which is put outside the rural society and flexible for any person to express his or her opinion. State and central government is a notion which utilized in cases when villagers are led to antagonistic rivalry in the village. That is, it means state offer moral norms of social life for people without involving any essential content in this framework. In this way, central government does not be criticized by village people. 'State' discourse is a convenient framework to legitimate own opinion with any organizations and individuals in the village.In conclusion, I suggest that the discussion of state-society relations should not only emphasize the dichotomy between state and society or societies' resistance to state, but pay more attention on the social relation in everyday life.
