A Numerical Simulation of Two-Dimensional Shear Flow

With emphasis on the effect of numerical accuracy of the scheme, a new algorithm is presented on the basis of an improvement of the Arakawa's method, and numerical computations are conducted for continuous, transient phenomena of a shear layer from a linear regime to a nonlinear one by use of the Euler equations satisfying vorticity, energy and enstrophy conservations. A comparison is made to clarify the validity of the present scheme applied to the transient phenomena of a shear layer with an assumption of a monochronic disturbance, and detailed examination is made further on the change in flow field of the merging vortices.
