I have been interested in the correlation between the natural environment and human activities, wondering, on one hand, how human beings have historically utilized the natural environment and established systems to manage it and an administrative structure in which those systems are installed. On the other hand, I am interested in how the natural environment has been changed and how human beings have responded to the change. To look at these questions, I have studied the land and irrigation systems along the Nile river in the medieval period.
