The purpose of this research project is twofold: to develop new teaching materials for learning French tenses - a key element in the study of "French as a Foreign Language" - and to test their effectiveness. Unlike conventional pedagogical materials, these materials are conceived to dynamically provide learners with resources as they are engaged in learning tasks. This is a four-year project aimed at Japanese students in Japan and international students studying French in France at a beginner level. Data collection (2018, 2019) consisted of videoed sessions of participants using the materials in an experimental setting. In the second half of the project (2020, 2021), data is analyzed within a multimodal discourse analysis framework to determine whether the materials enable learners to adequately use tenses in the tasks.
