I research the impact of representations in medical and health contexts, including medical illustrations, by combining visual culture studies with artistic research (practice-led approach)—areas not actively pursued in Japan. My work explores how these representations affect people and investigates the Professional Vision of those who create these representations, along with practical applications of this understanding. I am also interested in the definition, measurement, and application of Visual Literacy, conducting research that combines both qualitative and quantitative methods.
