国際関係、グローバル環境ガバナンス、野生生物の保護管理、北極圏ガバナンス、北太平洋地域（日露米加）。歴史・政治・経済・法律・文化等の多岐にわたる、人間とその他の生き物との関係の学際的研究を目指しています。その他、北極圏諸国と日本、特に北海道のコミュニティによる北方圏構想を対象に、その構想が地域住民のアイデンティティ、対外関係、発展戦略等にどのような影響を与えているかを研究課題としています。とりわけ、各主体（アクター）と当事者／利害関係者（ステークホルダー）がいかに関わり合って、譲り合って、関係者全員が満足できる斬新な解決策を見出しているかに焦点を当てています。

My current research interests lie in the fields of international relations, global environmental governance, wildlife conservation and living resource management, the Arctic governance, and North Pacific regional studies (Japan, Russia, the United States and Canada). I am aiming for interdisciplinary studies covering the historical, political, economic, legal and cultural aspects of human relationships with the other living beings. Another major area of my studies is the concept of the North in the Arctic countries and Japan, particularly Hokkaido, and how it impacts on the northern communities’ identities, relations with other regions and strategies of development. My particular focus is on how various actors and stakeholders interact, resolve conflicts and produce innovative win-win solutions.
