The present study examines the effect of an English movie as teaching materials for developing students' language awareness in a university English language classroom. This paper begins with the details of four experimental lessons designed for developing students' language awareness focusing on the differences between English language and Japanese language using a movie. It then provides the students' comments on worksheets and questionnaires, which illustrates how the movie gave the students clues to answer the questions of the activities, and also proves that utilizing a movie as teaching materials is one of the helpful ways to develop students' language awareness, in terms of word awareness and pragmatic awareness.
