Masashi HOSHINO currently is a Lecturer of Faculty of Global Media Studies, Komazawa University, and a Part-time Lecturer of Waseda University. He has a Doctor of Economics from Kobe University. He was an Assistant Professor of Faculty of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University from 2013 to 2016, a Post Doctoral Fellow at Hokkaido University from 2009 to 2013, a Part-time Lecturer at University of Tokyo from 2010 to 2011, and a Senior Scholar at Peking University from 2006 to 2008. He had taught Chinese Economy, Introduction to Microeconomics, Introduction to Macroeconomics, Income Distribution, and Development Economics at Waseda University. He had served as a member of the Associate Editor of the Asian Studies.

His fields of specialization are Chinese Economy and Development Economics. His research interests include regional disparity, income distribution, and economic data of China. His work featured in academic publications such as Asian Studies, and media publications such as The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK). His paper “Measurement of GDP per capita and Regional Disparities in China, 1979-2009” has been cited in books and review papers many times. He has presented keynote speech at Heilongjiang University, China. He has received the grant from the Ministry of Education and Science of Japan and The Konosuke Matsushita Memorial Foundation. He received the 2014 Autumn Semester Waseda Teaching Award in "Study of Economics: Development Economics".
