Cloud Control DTN Utilizing General User' Smartphones for Narrowband Edge Computing

In this paper, we propose cloud control DTN (CC-DTN) to upload large amounts of data from the edge to the cloud by multi-hop communication using Wi-Fi via the smartphones of general users who happen to be in the vicinity of the edge. With the proposed CC-DTN, the cloud centrally controls the connection between the edges and the smartphones via the LPWAN and LTE networks by using the movement history of the smartphones. Therefore, unlike the existing DTN, where the terminal performs data transmission based on local information exchanged between the terminals, large data can be efficiently transferred to the cloud while suppressing the power consumption of the edge. Furthermore, we report the effectiveness of the proposed method by simulations.
