Profile

MIYAMOTO Takashi is an Assistant Professor in the University of Tokyo Archives. His study centres on institutional and ideological changes of punishment in Japan, India, and the Malay Peninsula during the 19th-20th centuries. He is especially interested in the evolution of "archive" on penology and its impact on the lives of inmates. In order to trace the international network of penological information, he is also exploring a methodology of digital history. He and his colleagues, including citizens and librarians of Omuta City, are currently running a project for construction of the Miike Coal Mine Historical Database.
