Morihiro Harada is a Professor and Director of the Center for Environmental and Societal Sustainability (CENSS) at Gifu University.

He conducts research in the interdisciplinary fields of sediment hydraulics, river engineering, and river ecology, focusing on rivers and their watersheds. Through these activities, he aims to develop technologies for achieving "rivers that are good for both people and living organisms" and "river management that balances flood control and river environment conservation." He also promotes collaborative research with experts in meteorology, forestry, hydrology, water environments, agricultural land, and ecosystems, working toward the realization of sustainable river basins.

From 2014 to 2024, Harada belonged to the Basin Hydrological Dynamics Laboratory led by Professor Ichiro Tamagawa. In 2025, he founded the River Environment Systems and Dynamics Laboratory. His current research focuses on the natural dynamics of river physical environments, which form the foundation of river ecosystems. By viewing rivers as integral parts of the entire watershed, he engages in comprehensive and interdisciplinary approaches to generate practical knowledge for sustainable river management, river environment conservation, and basin-wide flood and water management harmonized with the environment.

In February 2020, he was appointed as Director of the Reagional Adaptation Research Center (RARC) at Gifu University. In April 2024, following the integration of related centers, he transitioned to the newly established Center for Environmental and Societal Sustainability (CENSS), where he has served as Director since March 2025. In collaboration with experts both within and outside the university, as well as with local stakeholders, he is committed to working toward the realization of highly sustainable river basins and regional communities.

Recognizing the increasing urgency of climate change and population decline, Harada is deeply committed to addressing these challenges as part of his mission in this era.
