Masatoshi Sasaoka is a researcher with experience in environmental sociology, environmental anthropology and Indonesian area studies. His main work is an ethnographic study to clarify holistically relationships between protected, endangered animals and humans which are embedded in the local context, and to consider the place-based conservation model compatible with local livelihood in Seram Island, eastern Indonesia.

Research interests:
Local value of endangered, protected wildlife resource use, resource management based on indigenous knowledge or social norms and its transformation, human-wildlife interrelationships formed through indigenous agriculture
