Dr. Maria Luisa Tejada graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA with a Ph.D. in Geology and Geophysics. She was an Associate Professor of Geochemistry and Igneous Petrology at the University of the Philippines National Institute of Geological Sciences in Quezon City, Philippines before she joined Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) as a researcher in 2010. She is currently holding a Scientist position at JAMSTEC, investigating the origin of large igneous provinces and tracing the effects of massive volcanism and other extreme events on the Earth's environment through time.
