Since April 2011, all the higher education institutes in Japan will have to set up 'career education'curriculum. This seems to be a noticeable event, because 'career education'in contemporary Japan has been done at the primary and secondary education level. This paper shows the course of the expansion of 'career education'into higher education level and analyzes the issues concerned this change, by focusing on the discussion at the Central Education Council 'Select Sectional Meeting about Career Education and Vocational Education.'
