The squeezing and swelling deformation causes serious damage to tunnel. For the design stage and countermeasures during construction and in service, it is necessary to predict tunnel deformation. It means that the mechanical behavior of squeezing and swelling of ground is needed to be clarified. In this paper, the relationship between swelling strains, confinement pressure and time dependency is configured. And the strength reduction should be considered. In addition, above relationships is incorporated into elasto-plastic analysis by finite element method. The results of a numerical back calculation of measured deformation in the ground and floor was identified by this method using field observation and laboratory tests. Finally, design concept of the countermeasure for residual heaving in mountain tunnel is introduced.
