蛍光プローブは、現在の生物学的研究において欠かすことのできないツールとなっている。有機小分子の蛍光プローブは、一分子の蛍光プローブが、標的と反応することを前提に設計されてきており、望みの機能を実現する蛍光プローブの論理的な設計法が確立されてきている。一方、近年蛍光色素の集合状態と分散状態の変化を利用した蛍光プローブが新たなる蛍光制御方法として注目を集めてきている。本稿では、これについて概説した上で、我々が見出した自己集合化を利用した蛍光プローブの制御方法とその活用法について紹介する。(著者抄録)

蛍光プローブを用いたイメージング法では、癌特異的なトリガーによりシグナル変化が誘起されるようデザインすることで、癌組織と正常組織の質的な違いをイメージングすることが可能である。癌の蛍光イメージングとして、癌特有のバイオマーカーを標的とした分子標的イメージング、癌特有の代謝を指標とした代謝活性イメージング、癌に特有な環境で活性化される代謝を利用した低酸素環境イメージングについて概説した。
